Today is the 2nd anniversary of my working life in my current company.

In fact, Okui and I started working on the same day. So today is our 2nd anniversary.

Time passes so fast that 2 years have already gone. I’m talking about 2 years, not 2 weeks or 2 months. It is freaking TWO YEARS!

Initially, I was thinking to write a summary post of what have I done for the last 2 years. But at the end I gave up because there were just too much emotions, experiences, friends, things and thoughts during the pass 2 years. If I were to start writing all that, I’m afraid I can’t control myself and the post will eventually become a book. Kidding…

It is for sure a very fulfilling 2-year working experience for me. I’ve learnt a lot about the different faces of people around me, I’m less naive, I can better see how things work in a company and in the society, and of course I have gained a lot in terms of knowledge and materials.

I’m happy for who I am and what I have now. But of course I have to work harder in order to get what I wanted to have and live a better life in the future.

Happy annivesary to Okui and I and I wish ourself best of luck in our future career.

I think this is the longest break for not updating my blog — 3 weeks. 1 week for too bored nothing to write, 1 week for too busy work until die and 1 more week for going back hometown no time to write.

Back to last Saturday, my last day working before I went for a 5-day-Raya-holiday. The company had a so called “Global General Annual Gathering”. Without any prior knowledge of it, I was presented by the president with Leadership Excellence Award together with other 47 colleagues.

Together with the award, I was promoted to Senior Web Designer.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my parents, colleagues, families and friends for giving me all the support and…” Hahaha… just kidding, I’m not winning Academy Award here.

I brought the certificate back to my hometown and showed it to my family, they were all very happy and proud.

I’m happy for the recognition I got from the company and also my family. As now I know that, the path I’ve chosen 2 years ago to work in KL after graduation has been paid off.

I know I have much more to give and learn. But for now, this award has placed an important milestone in my life.

Disclaimer: This guide is purely hypothetical, if similar, it is purely coincidental. These actions are highly dangerous, kids are not encouraged to imitate.

This is a guide to teach you how to be a boss that everybody hates. It is not easy to follow. But if you can fulfill all criteria, in no time everyone in the office will hate you more than ever before.

Slam the table very hard out of a sudden and scare everyone in the office.

Force your subordinates to come to work on time and work extra hours everyday.

When your subordinates come late to work, scold them kao kao and when you come late to work, pretend to be very busy with work.

Your subordinates cannot be late and you can be late for 4 hours because of over slept.

Use extremely low voice to talk over the phone and slam the phone after the conversation.

Show off your fatty body to your subordinates and teach them how to use a dumbbell. When necessary, you can ask them to touch and feel your bicep “muscle”.

Pretend to know everything and keep repeating “I know I know I know” before your subordinates can finish his or her sentence, throughout the conversation.

Giving instructions like “make whatever whatever whatever changes” and expect your subordinates to understand what it means.

Ask your subordinates to walk few hundred meters all the way to the other side of the building just to help you carry a laptop while you carry 2 books in your hand.

Modify the SMS sent by your superior and forward to all your subordinates so that they think the order is given by the big boss.

Ultimately, you can sleep in the office, right at your desk, openly, while your subordinates work tirelessly to finish the works.

P/S: Kevin designed a cheatsheet poster that comes in handy when you need to have a quick reference on the characteristics of a cocky boss.

What makes a workaholic?

You work 10 hours a day.

You think your office computer is way better and faster than your home computer.

You try very hard to forget about work by watching movies, reading magazines and chat with friends.

You ask people how’s work when you chat with someone in msn.

You surf the net at home and 50% of the time you are doing research for your work.

You go to sleep very early so that you can wake up faster to go to work the next day.

You wake up in the morning and the first thing you think about is things you want to do when you reach the office.

You talk about your work and about your colleagues with all your friends.

You talk about work with your housemate while at work, in the car, having dinner and at home.

You have nothing much to talk about except your work.

If you met 40% of the above mentioned criteria, congratulation you are a potential workaholic. If you score 100%, bingo you deserved to be a workaholic.

An advice for you, find some personal time for yourself to make your life more meaningful and find sometime for exercise before you need to find sometime for sickness.

It’s 3:00 AM now and I’m writing this from the office. I call this “over over time”.

Got a call around 1 AM from the big boss when I was sleeping just now. He was in Africa and it was around 6 PM over there. He said it’s very very urgent and he needs me to send him some pictures ASAP.

So here I am. Sending some pictures over 100 MB through email.

Well, what to do. Think of it in a better way lor. How many people actually have the chance to come back to the office to send pictures in the middle of the night right? At least I did that before already.

Almost finish sending. Damn sleepy now.

Chow.

This morning I had this conversation.

PS: Hey, you guys must come early lah tomorrow. Please come before 9.30 in the morning.
Me: Oh, if like that we can chow by 5 o’clock lah?
PS: Cannot, that one you have to talk to your big boss. By the way, do you know that your appointment letter says that you have to work late from time to time if you need to?
Me: But now we are working late everyday wor.
PS: Yalah, everyday also got need what. That’s why you guys have to stay late.
Me: ……

WTF???!!! WTH???!!!

That’s just so fucked up lah. I knew there’s such thing in the appointment letter, but to make sure again, I went to find back my appointment letter and this is what I found.

… However, as the nature of business is such, you may need to work late from time to time without further remuneration.

Damn it, what does it mean by from time to time? Is everyday means from time to time to you?

To double make sure, I went to find another appointment letter and see how they write it.

… From time to time, you may be required to work on Saturday or Sunday subject to Department/Client requirements. For project team members, work schedule may vary from the above subject to the project operation requirement.

Walau!!! From time to time again??? This one even mention Saturday and Sunday some more.

What a mean society I am living in? Is there any company out there don’t write things like these? Or maybe they write things the other way around.

… You may not work late for whatever reason. From time to time, you may required to go home earlier or even take 1 or 2 days off subject to the project operation requirement.

Hmmm… I wonder.
